Overview

Random - Indian Street Food, nestled in the vibrant India Bazaar of St. Peters, MO, is a true celebration of India’s beloved street flavors brought to life in an inviting, bustling setting. This Indian restaurant captures the essence of street food culture, showcasing a carefully curated menu that features iconic dishes like pani puri, pav bhaji, maska bun, and dosa, each reflecting authentic taste profiles from various corners of India.

One cannot talk about Random without mentioning their standout pani puri. Visitors have been swept away by the crisp, hollow puris filled with spicy, tangy water that strikes a perfect balance—refreshing, yet boldly flavorful. The nod to Delhi-style pani puri, with a unique twist of chickpeas, highlights the brand’s ability to honor regional specialties while tailoring them for a diverse audience. Another favorite, the maska bun, pairs buttery softness with the nostalgic warmth of a freshly brewed chai, creating a comforting experience reminiscent of Indian cafés.

The dosa here is a revelation. Crispy on the edges and tender inside, these South Indian staples arrive hot and generously filled, such as with the richly spiced egg masala. Each bite delivers layers of texture and spice, transporting diners to a street corner in Chennai or Bangalore. Complimenting the fare are chaats like dahi chaat and papidi chaat, which bring vibrant mixtures of chutneys, fresh vegetables, and spices that excite the palate without overwhelming it.

Random’s location, sharing space with an Indian grocery store, adds to its charm and accessibility for patrons seeking a slice of authentic Indian culture in the heart of Missouri. The experience here is communal and lively, often buzzing with locals and those familiar with Indian flavors. Despite the steady stream of customers, service remains warm and attentive, reflecting the dedication of the hardworking staff behind the counter.

This spot appeals not only to the Indian diaspora craving the tastes of home but also to adventurous food lovers eager to explore genuine street food narratives. The cozy, unpretentious environment encourages casual dining and quick bites, making it perfect for a midday snack or a relaxed evening treat. Random - Indian Street Food proves that authentic, thoughtfully prepared dishes can resonate far beyond their origins, delivering memorable moments with every plate.

I recently tried some random street food, and wow — what a treat! I ate pani puri, maska bun, and egg masala dosa, and honestly, all three were the best of the bestest. Pani puri had that perfect crispy crunch, bursting with spicy tangy water that hit just right. It’s the kind of flavor bomb that makes you go for “just one more” until you’re full but still tempted, the maska bun — soft, buttery, and melting in the mouth. Simple but unbeatable. Paired with a hot chai, it was pure comfort food magic,But the highlight? Egg masala dosa! Crispy edges, fluffy center, and that spicy egg masala packed inside? Absolute perfection. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying. Overall, everything was really good and definitely a must-try!

What has started out to be random has definitely had the Indian community raving for more. The place is hard to miss since the place shares the pavement with the Indian grocery store. They have chaats, pav bhaji, and chai. A pretty classic Bombay street if I may say so. We went at a time no one was in sight so we got our order pretty quickly. Post that the place was buzzing with a bunch of people queuing up to get their orders. We tried their Pani Puri which is more or less similar to the one you’d get in Delhi. They use chickpeas in their puri along with Pani that is very mild and cannot be spiced even if you ask. They don’t mix the tamarind chutney unless prompted, which is a shame because if you’re a newbie you won’t quite enjoy the dish. We had their Dahi Chaat. The dahi was negligible. A teaspoon at the most per puri but it tasted pretty good. The blend of the green chutney along with the tamarind chutney and fresh onions and tomatoes with the right spice mix made it delectable. The Irani Chai definitely stood out for us. It’s a tiny cup but a bomb of flavors. It’s strong, sweet, and reminds you of walks you took with your friends whilst walking down random streets in India with a cup of chai. Don’t miss the place. The staff is a hard working bunch of people who deserve the recognition!
